PhD Position in Organic Lasers
A PhD position is available for a project in Organic Lasers in the research group of Dr Girish Lakhwani in the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney. Start date no later than 1st July 2019.
Proposed Research Project
The aim of the project is to identify organic materials that can act as a gain medium to demonstrate lasing. The project will involve spectroscopic characterisation of advanced organic materials and their performance in devices such as OLEDs and lasers. The PhD student will join a multidisciplinary research team, with strong interactions with other research groups and institutions working under the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science (ACEx). The overall mission of ACEx is to examine and manipulate the way light energy is absorbed, transported and transformed in advanced molecular materials.
Prospective student
Seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is not hesitant to take on challenging projects and explore areas of research beyond the traditional confines of chemistry or physics. Applicants must also hold an Honours degree (First Class) or a Masters degree in a related field with a substantial research component, or equivalent. Applicants must have a strong background in physical chemistry or chemical physics. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and material science.
Scholarship opportunities are available for exceptional candidates.
Applications
The deadline for applications is 15th March, 2019. Expression of Interest (EoI) can be emailed to Dr Girish Lakhwani, girish.lakhwani@sydney.edu.au. An EoI should contain a personal statement (not more than 500 words) stating why you wish to undertake chosen research, a complete CV and a scanned copy of latest transcript. Incomplete EoIs will not be considered.
