Ms Meredith Mahoney

PhD Student

Meredith Mahoney is a Physicist employed by the Defence Science and Technology Group of the Australian Department of Defence. Her work program involves research into material solutions for the protection of the dismounted Australian soldier. This protection is to mitigate against the effects of high velocity penetration assault and explosions. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree (with honours) at Monash University in 2007, with a Major in Physics. In 2018 Meredith commenced a part-time PhD by research degree at RMIT, sponsored by the Defence Science and Technology Group. Her research area at RMIT is modelling ceramic materials at both the atomic scale (through an initio methods) and in the macro-scale (through finite element modelling) to enable a better understanding of protective materials, and develop novel materials for protection of the dismounted soldier.
