Dr Sam Brooke

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Optical Nanomaterials, Research Fellow

Sam joined Exciton Science as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Hutchison group in April 2023. He recieved his PhD in Nanoscience from Massey University in New Zealand, working on vibrational spectroscopy of 2D nanomaterials and identifying defect and edge structures of crystalline materials through resonant Raman spectroscopy. During the PhD he developed skills in 2D nanomaterial synthesis and optical instrument design. Following his PhD, Sam worked in R&D for the startup company Marama Labs, where he continued developing visible spectroscopy and instrument design skills. With the Hutchison group and Exciton Science, Sam is interested in building a tunable-excitation Raman microscope to explore the advanced characterisation of new materials and devices, including 2D light emitting devices, solar cell devices, polaritonic systems, and coherent scattering systems.
