Jon's research interests cover much of supramolecular and applied coordination chemistry, ranging from crystal engineering to molecular sensors, light-switchable molecular devices and machines.
Jon completed his BSc (Hons) (2002) and MSc (2004) at the University of Sydney, before moving to Basel, Switzerland, for his PhD in coordination chemistry. From 2009-2012 he was a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Edinburgh (UK) and from March 2012 – February 2013 he was Research A/Prof at Nanjing University (China). In March 2013 he moved to UNSW, and in June 2017 was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship (2017-2021) and in 2020 promoted to Associate Professor.
