R U OK? Day Webinar
On Thursday 9 September, R U OK? Day reminds us of the importance to check-in with each other and provides an opportunity to refresh our skills, and help ourselves and each other to cope better, wherever we are on the mental health continuum.
Exciton Science is pleased to invite you to a special initiative that we are hosting with the help of our mental health and behaviour change partner, En Masse. We hope you are able to join us.
The theme of the event is understanding mental health and the role that conversations and positive approaches can play.
We are pleased to be hosting an interactive panel conversation via Zoom that will focus on a combination of lived experience-based discussions with practical, research and evidence-based tools for engaging in supportive conversations about mental health with anyone you care about.

The program will include an interactive discussion aimed at raising awareness about the continuum of mental health that accurately depicts, among other things, that people with mental health conditions can still thrive in their lives and that interventions, from prevention and mental health promotion, and early intervention (including conversations) can make a huge positive difference to our capacity to recover from mental health setbacks.
We'll also spend a few moments discussing the benefits and reviewing a framework for taking a positive approach to managing your mental health wherever you are on the mental health continuum.
Finally, the GLOBE model for engaging in low risk, supportive conversations about mental health will also be covered in a practical way.
Our panel will be led by Mark Dean, CEO and Founder of En Masse, who will facilitate a conversation between our panelists whom we are pleased to confirm include:
- Niki Strachan, Communications and Media Officer, Exciton Science.
- Oriana Tokatlidis, Clinical Psychologist and Manager, University of Melbourne Counselling and Psychological Services.
- Dr Girish Lakhwani, Associate Professor (University of Sydney) and Deputy Director, Exciton Science.
- Dr Alison Funston, (Monash University), Deputy Director, Exciton Science & member of the Centre’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC).
